Drug Safety Through Smart Drug Delivery System

Introduction: Drugs in their original form although licensed to market after robust clinical trials are exhibiting serious ADRs when used in large populations. This has led to implementation of Pharmacovigilance data collection and analysis throughout the world. When administered to general populations are exhibiting unexpected ADRs which are not identified during clinical trials. This kind of drug behavior eventually leads to banning of the drug and withdrawal and along with huge penalties for the manufacturers. For example, cox-2 inhibitors are found to cardiotoxic leading to heart disease and death of the patients. The Pharma industry is reformulating the potential drugs into novel drug delivery with an objective of minimizing the toxicity and enhancing the efficacy. This can be achived by reducing the dose of the drug by targeting the drug molecule in the site of action. In this article we are discussing some of the exciting developments.
