Dr. Pradnya Palekar Shanbhag*, Chandankumar Sahane & Sneha Belatikar

Introduction: Montelukast sodium is selective, orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist. Levocetrizine dihydrochloride is an orally active, selective, potent and long acting H-1 receptor antagonist with bitter taste. In the present study taste masked fast dissolving oral strips containing Montelukast sodium and Levocetrizine dihydrochloride were developed as combination therapy. The oral strips were prepared using easily available components such as HPMC E5 and propylene glycol. Levocetrizine dihydrochloride Complexol HP complex masked the bitter taste of Levocetrizine dihydrochloride making the oral strips palatable. In vitro and in vivo evaluation of fast dissolving oral strips proved the effectiveness of this novel dosage form as combination therapy for rapid action of Montelukast sodium and Levocetrizine dihydrochloride.
