Keshari Roshan, Dr. Rathore K.S & Rathod Harshita

Introduction: Ophthalmic drug delivery system is a unique drug delivery system because it is more acceptable and excellent because of biodegradable and water soluble polymer. It is considered as ideal drug delivery system because of its smaller dose required as compare systemic drug. It has more onset of action having minimal or no side effect. As the human eye is more elegant in its detail and design. As it important parts are like scelra, eye ball, conjunctiva, aqueous humor cornea, choroid layer . And the mechanism of action by which the eye works is osmosis, diffusion, bioerosion. As beside these there are different barrier to this delivery system such as lachrymal fluid-eye barrier, blood-ocular barrier. And there are different routes are available for administration of drug but intravitreal, sub-conjuctival are mostly selective. As different dosage form are available in the market in the form of liquid, ointment, aqueous gel, ocuserts and lacriserts, pharmocosomes, implants.
