Design and Evaluation of Diclofenac Sodium Transdermal Gel Using Novel Drug Carrier Polymers: A Comparative Study

Dr. Pradnya Palekar Shanbhag*, Sujita Gupta, Rohan Gurav, Aishwarya Jain & Akshay Jain

Introduction: The aim of the present work was to prepare and evaluate transdermal gels of Diclofenac sodium containing novel drug carrier polymers such as Sepineo P600 and Aqupec HV 505 HC along with other standard excipeints. The formulated gels were subjected to in vitro release study and in vitro diffusion study along with evaluation of viscosity behaviour, drug content, spreadability, extrudability and pH; and compared with that of the marketed gel. The optimized gel formulation gave satisfactory controlled effect using novel drug carrier polymers favourable for an anti-inflammatory effect and therefore can serve as a promising alternative to the marketed gel.
