Dental Stem Cells: A Promising Source of Stem Cells After Umbilical Cord

Introduction: Stem cells hold the potential in many different areas of medical research. Many sources of stem cell have been explored for their usefulness. Stem cells from tooth have the ability to convert into a dazzling array of tissue such as: neural, muscular and connective, etc. and so hold the potential to treat the most serious medical conditions like: Neuronal degenerative disorders, Type 1 diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, Paralysis, Liver disease, and Dental caries etc. These cells have given hope to those who missed out the chance to bank their umbilical cord. Stem cells from teeth are easy to extract and satisfies the ethical concerns, this serves as a positive aspect for dental stem cells vs. umbilical cord stem cells. This review describes the potentials and implications of dental stem cells as a substitute of umbilical cord derived stem cell.
